Unserviced heaters and coolers: your loved ones are in danger

Nowadays, most people are aware of the ugly dangers of carbon monoxide leakage through unserviced heating and cooling systems. How could anyone forget the story of Vanessa and Scott Robinson, who lost their two young boys to carbon monoxide poisoning in 2010. It's one of those things you'd like to believe would never happen to you, but if you do not have your heating and cooling systems serviced at least every two years you are at risk.

Not only are you in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning, but unserviced heating and cooling systems are also a horrific breeding ground for deadly bacteria. Carbon monoxide and bacteria on their own are dangerous, but if you have been neglecting your heating and cooling systems for a long period of time you could have a problem with both! It is strongly advised that you have your heating and cooling serviced every two years, more frequently if possible.

The reason why these factors are so hazardous is because there is no way of suspecting they exist in your home. If your heating is running well why get it checked out, right? Wrong. Carbon monoxide in particular is an odourless, colourless gas and the symptoms it displays on the human body closely resemble the flu or food poisoning; therefore we don't jump to drastic conclusions such as carbon monoxide leakage. Even small things such as headaches are linked to carbon monoxide poisoning. When the poisoning worsens the symptoms progress to things such as memory loss, coordination problems, chest pains, loss of consciousness, seizures and worst of all can result in death.

Bacteria living in your heating and cooling causes symptoms such as a sore throat, eyes, itchiness, asthma attacks, hayfever, fatigue, infected or inflamed sinuses and allergies.

Because the early symptoms of carbon monoxide and bacteria infestation are such 'common' symptoms, it is easy to just not consider that the cause of this could be due to irregular servicing to your heating and cooling. Why risk it? Don't wait until you and your loved ones are damaged, beat this before it's too late.
